what do we do with these clothes?

memory weaving Fern

If you have lost a pregnancy, an infant, a little one, what do you do with their clothes?

Memory weaving, using the clothing of beloved little ones woven into something larger--a tapestry, a shawl, a blanket--brings tangile, tactile and forever comfort. It gives us something to hold, something to wear, something to wrap our arms around.

It's my honor to weave for parents who have experienced loss. In weaving these uniquely beautiful and poignantly powerful pieces, I wed my work as a minister, weaver and mother. I experienced a loss half way through a pregnancy to a little one who had Trisomy 18. You can read about my experience here. It was a devastating experience for me but one that I draw from now time and again in ways that are healing, connecting and honoroing.

As my loss was pre-birth, I didn't have many clothes for this baby. All we had for this was a pair of socks that a friend gifted us early in the pregnancy. The piece you see above incorporates those four tiny socks into a circular tapestry.

For your piece, there is no limit. No limit to the colors, styles or kind that can be created.

Memory pieces can be tapestries. They can be rectangular, heart shaped, circular, small, medium or large. The memory piece can be a scarf or shawl that you can warp yourself in, a blanket to hold on your lap, or even a piece of clothing.

The process of creating a memory piece is deeply moving. I work with parents throughout the process with updates and feedback.

Having a fully individual piece of art created is a heart-healing process, one I tenderly and reverently hold.

These commissions range in price and I can generally accomodate most budgets.

It would be an honor for me to weave for you. Please reach out directly to me at sam@thesamanthawilde.com or contact me through the website.
